Centre for the Study of Human Rights, University of Colombo successfully completed the certificate awarding ceremony on 25th February 2022. The event was graced by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo, Senior Professor, Chandrika N. Wijeratne; Mr. Thushara Upuldeniya, the Commissioner General, Department of Prisons, Sri Lank as the chief guest; Dr Nishantha Sampath Punchihewa, Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, Professor Wasantha Seneviratne, Director, CSHR; Mr. M A M. Hakeem, Deputy Director, CSHR; many other academics and professionals of the University of Colombo and distinguished invitees.
Professor Wasantha Seneviratne, Director, CSHR accorded a ceremonial welcome remark to the honoured guests. Dean, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, Dr Nishantha Sampath Punchihewa who is striving a lot to uphold the unparalleled tradition of academic excellence and innovative teaching addressed the gathering. Next, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo Senior Professor, Chandrika N Wijeyaratne who had a phenomenal academic as well as professional journey addressed the gathering. The Chief Guest of the occasion Mr. Thushara Upuldeniya, Commissioner General, Prison’s Department adorned the ceremony with an astounding address. Following the giveaway of certificates to the awardees the ceremony was concluded with remarkable vote of thanks by Mr. M.A.M. Hakeem, Deputy Director, CSHR an individual with an abundance of positive vibe and confidence to get things done perfectly with great plan.
No one will disagree that excellence is never an accident. It is the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, skillful execution and vision to see obstacles as opportunities. It was a proud moment for CSHR to giveaway more than 250 awards and awardees highly celebrated the moment with the guest speech and addresses delivered by the eminent professionals. CSHR honoured the interns who have completed the internship at CSHR and grateful to giveaway certificates to the following programmes namely, Diploma in Human Rights Based Policing, Distance Learning Diploma in Human Rights and Democracy, E-Diploma in Human Rights, Advanced Certificate in Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law, Certificate in Human Rights and Fundamental Rights (Colombo and Puttlam), Certificate in Law and the Citizen, Certificate Course in Child Care and Advanced Training Programme in Child Care.
