The Kandy Visit, organised by the CSHR, aimed to provide our international students with direct engagement opportunities with Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage and biodiversity, while fostering a deeper understanding of the impacts of British colonisation. Kandy was chosen for its cultural and historical significance, as well as its importance in heritage preservation in Sri Lanka. Additionally, the visit sought to enhance students’ interpersonal skills, promote adaptability in a foreign environment, and strengthen social networking between students and the APMA/MHRD staff members. During this visit, the APMA students could witness the tea-processing facility in Pilimathalawa Tea Factory in the Kandy District. The second site visited by the APMA delegation was the Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya, one of Sri Lanka’s most significant botanical and conservation institutions. The visit to Peradeniya University provided students with an opportunity to observe the academic environment of a leading Sri Lankan university and to gain insight into the country’s higher education landscape. The students also visited the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This cultural visit to Kandy provided students with valuable experiential learning opportunities that complemented their academic studies.
