A Field Visit to Sinharaja Rain Forest and Kukule Ganga

A field visit to the Sinharaja Forest Reserve and Kukule Ganga offers an excellent opportunity for our international students to explore biodiversity, hydrology, and environmental conservation in Sri Lanka. Sinharaja, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, represents the last significant expanse of primary tropical rainforest in the country. Kukule Ganga, a prominent river linked to the Kukule Ganga Hydropower Project, also plays a crucial role in this region. The primary aim of this visit is to investigate the natural environment, biodiversity, and water resources of the Sinharaja Rain Forest and the Kukule Ganga, and to gain insights into their ecological and economic significance for our students studying environmental law and sustainable development modules in this postgraduate degree programme.
